It’s October 1st! Crazy how quickly time has gone by! I feel like it was just last week, when October ’17 was going by. Nevertheless, it’s time to make the best out of whatever we have left of the year. So for this exact reason I thought maybe a wellness challenge would be a fun thing to do for October!
Fall is my absolute favorite season of the year, but it’s also usually the time when things get busy again. Summer break has just come to an end, so it’s time to get back in gear! Since winter is always rough for me, I want to get into the habit of making self-care and my well-being a priority so I won’t even have to think about it when winter comes (any Game of Thrones fans out there?).
So for day 1 of the 30 day challenge, I thought it would be important to set intentions and goals. Here are the questions I’m asking myself for this challenge and overall the last few months of 2018 are these:
- What does wellness, well-being and health mean to me? What does that look like?
- What is missing in my life currently, that I’d like to have more of?
- What habits are currently not serving me that I’d like to improve on?
- What habits am I implementing that ARE serving me, and that I’d like to continue?
- How would I like to feel after the next 30 days (and beyond)?
- What areas of my life do I feel would impact my life the greatest, if I worked on them?
- Who is impacted by my good and bad habits? How would they be impacted if I improved several areas of my life? How would that impact me?
- How am I doing in these areas of my life – social, family, school, financial, environment, work, health, spiritual? How would I rate myself from a 1-10 in each of them? What are each of my goals in these areas?
- How will I recognize when I’ve achieved some of my goals, and how will I celebrate them?
- Finally, why do I want to improve my health and well-being?
And here are my answers to these questions:
- Wellness, well-being and health mean that I am able to function optimally. My mental health and physical health are not hindering me from achieving my goals and being able to get through the day. My mood is stable and I have plenty of energy to get things done. I have great relationships with my family and friends, and feel connected.
2. Currently, sleep, energy and a sense of peace are something I think I could use a little bit of more.
3. Procrastinating, staying up late, not cleaning up right after myself, eating a few sweets too many, etc.
4. Working in a designated work space, getting up at around the same time, taking my vitamins, drinking a smoothie every morning, etc.
5. I would love to feel a sense of accomplishment, gratitude, satisfaction, and have more energy.
6. I think if I was able to work on my energy and sleep, as well as mental health and environment it would impact my life the most positively.
7. Most impacted would be my family (parents and brother). In addition my team, the people I work with, and my friends. If I were to have more energy then I would be able to support them more, and simply be more fun to be around. This of course would change relationships for the better!
8. Social (7) – for the next 30 days I’d like to take time to meet with 2 people outside of school or work, and connect with 4 people a week via social media just to catch up
Family (8) – for the next 30 days, I will focus on helping out more, cleaning up around myself (I have a habit of leaving a trail of my things behind me like Gretel), spend more time with Benni
Environmental (2) – my room is a mess to be honest, and by the end of the 30 days I’d like to have it completely decluttered and straightened up
Work (6) – set up more appointments (20), attend 1-2 networking events a week, contact 30 people, hit my business goal for the month, write my accountability partners daily (sorry about the slacking, Harry & Lauren!) and support my biz partner to the best of my capabilities
School (7) – write deadlines in the planner, set a study schedule, work on a schedule for Benni, make progress with Benni aka finishing 1 workbook with Benni
Financial (5) – this is probably going to be one of the toughest – set and stick to a budget, create a savings plan
Health (6) – get 7 hours of sleep at night, walk at least 10,000 steps a day, go to the gym 5 days a week, drink 5 glasses of water a day, create morning & night routines, complete the Happy Tummy challenge
Spiritual/Mental Health (5) – start the morning with journaling and gratitude, read 10 pages every day and listen to 1 podcast a day, meditate every day for 5 mins
9. To me a lot has to do with how I’m feeling. Do I feel satisfied? Have I accomplished what I set out to accomplish, or did I stick to old habits? When going back, I’ll be checking how I feel from 1 to 10 in each area after the 30 days and see if there’s been any improvement. Either way, I’ll be celebrating after the 30 days by visiting my favorite library in the area, and make it a cozy day.
10. To me it’s important that I’m at peak performance. I want to become the best version of myself that I can in order to serve others the best of my abilities. I want to be able to impact others positively, and be a source of joy to them. I do not want to pull anyone down by being in a bad mood, stressed, or not on top of my game. I’d like to inspire, motivate, and be an example for others who struggle as I at times do. Obviously, I also want to set a good example for my brother.
Anyway those might seem like many or lofty goals, but in the end I don’t expect drastic changes in each and every one of them. Even if there are subtle improvements in more than 3 areas, that’s huge! If I greatly improve in one area, but stay the same in others, that’s worth something as well. My overall focus for this challenge is exactly that – to become the best version of myself and work consistently at that by addressing these various factors.
Now I’m curious what are your goals for the next 30 days that would greatly improve your life and well-being? What habits are you looking to implement or get rid of? Comment below!
Love,
Maxi
