It’s almost fourth of July! I know my instagram feed has already been preparing for next week with pictures of sparklers, red-white-and-blue smoothie bowls and a variety of other foods. A few months back we were on the road and passed by a fireworks stand and I made sure to stop and grab some sparklers. In Germany we’d use sparklers for various special occasions, usually New Year’s Eve, so it always seems odd not to have them around that time of year. This time however I can’t wait to grab them for the day that every American so joyously celebrates.
I can’t say I identify myself as clearly an American, because that would seem like a betrayal to my German roots, however it’s impossible to completely disregard that side of my heritage as well. So while I don’t make a huge deal out of 4th of July, the historical significance isn’t lost on me and let’s be honest – it’s fun to dress in whatever clothes one can find that have stars or the American flag on it! One day I’m sure I’ll go completely all out on 4th of July, but today I’ll settle for fixing a semi-patriotic smoothie instead 🙂
