Are you excited about the New Year? I’m so excited about 2017, and have been for a while! In the beginning my mind went straight to New Year’s resolutions, but then I threw out that idea entirely. Because you know what? As soon as I had ditched my New Year’s resolutions for 2016, the real change began. The motivation of the new year only lasts so long, and it’s fueled by the kind of excitement that something new like getting a fitbit can bring. The excitement is there initially, but after a few weeks or months it wears off. Life happens. You get distracted. And that’s great! Because whatever truly needs changing, can only change if you’re willing to change. And often excitement isn’t part of the change.
For me a lot has happened in the last year and what created that change was determination and me being fed up with staying the same. Nothing else. It wasn’t fueled by pure joy, motivation or excitement. In fact, in a way it was kind of motivated by sadness of how I’m letting myself down by not being my best self! That might not seem glamorous or “sexy”, but it’s the honest-to-God truth!
So instead of writing a resolution down, I’m deciding on 24 things I want to check off my bucket list in the next 12 months! Sometimes life gets busy, and it’s easy to forget that while working really hard is great, you do need to balance it out with pleasure. So beginning January, I’m going to tick off 2 of the items each month, so I’m living a more fulfilled life and won’t have to drool over the awe-inducing Instagram pictures I scroll through almost everyday. 😉

2. Have an appreciation dinner for my family
3. Start writing a cookbook
4. Work with a personal trainer
5. Hike sugarloaf mountain
6. Learn how to salsa
8. Go to DC and visit all the monuments
9. Take a cooking class
10. Host a ladies brunch
11. Have a classic slumber party/sleepover
12. Run a 10k
13. Surprise a neighbor with a homemade item and spend time with them
14. Host a LotR or Gilmore Girls marathon
15. Complete a challenge
16. Go to the movies alone
17. Bake a birthday cake for a friend
18. Go on a picnic
19. Visit a book club
20. Watch the sunrise
21. Have breakfast in bed
22. Visit a local beach
23. Have a photoshoot with a friend
24. Turn off electronics for a day
